Cefim 200 mg Capsules are a prescription antibacterial medicine containing cefixime as the active ingredient. Cefixime is an orally active third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal activity against susceptible bacteria. Cefim may be prescribed for susceptible bacterial infections of the ear, nose and sinuses, throat, chest and lungs, and urinary system. Examples include otitis media, sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, cystitis and certain kidney infections when the responsible organism is susceptible to cefixime. Each capsule contains 200 mg of cefixime and is intended for oral administration. The appropriate dose and duration depend on the type and severity of infection, patient age and weight, and kidney function. Patients with significant renal impairment may require a lower dose. Cefim should only be used when prescribed by a physician and is not appropriate for viral infections such as the common cold or influenza. The prescribed treatment course should be completed unless the treating physician advises otherwise to support effective treatment and responsible antibiotic use.
