Betadine Antiseptic Ointment 40 g contains povidone-iodine 10% w/w and is formulated for topical antiseptic use on damaged skin. Povidone-iodine has broad antimicrobial activity and helps rapidly reduce bacteria, viruses, and fungi on the treated area, supporting the prevention and control of local wound contamination. The ointment may be used for a limited period on superficial wounds and burns, pressure sores, leg ulcers, and infected or secondarily infected skin conditions when appropriate. Its ointment format allows the antiseptic to remain in contact with the affected area and may be covered with a suitable dressing when required. The supplied product information describes prolonged wound protection for up to 48 hours. Application should be limited to the affected area and performed according to the product leaflet or professional medical advice. Betadine should not be used in people allergic to povidone-iodine or iodine, in certain thyroid disorders, with lithium therapy, around radioiodine treatment, or in children under two years of age.
